Cilacap coal-fired power plant in full operation

The 2 x 200 MW Cilacap coal-fired power plant in Central Java has resumed a full operation after securing 100,000 tons of coal supplies, a plant official said.

“Inspection for both of turbines has been done, so the turbines can run at full capacity started Wednesday,” the plant’s field manager Sutikno said on Thursday as quoted by Bisnis Indonesia.

Guangxi Imports Less Coal from Vietnam but More from Indonesia

The coal cross-border trade between Vietnam and China has been suspended since the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam released the Document no. 4437 abolishing the coal cross-border trade between the two countries starting on June 1st. As a result, the coal imports from Vietnam via Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region’s ports climbed only by 2.5% year-on-year to 5.777mt in the first five months of 2008, with the growth rate dropping considerably when compared with the annual growth rate of 40.7% in 2007, announced the Nanning Customs.

Peabody announce El Segundo Coal production

Peabody Energy announced it has started coal production at the 6Mtpa El Segundo domestic thermal coalmine in New Mexico. El Segundo is adjacent to the Lee Ranch mine.

Energy demand boosts Indonesian coal mines

Bayan Resources yesterday highlighted the interest investors are taking in Indonesia, the world’s largest thermal coal exporter, when it announced plans to raise up to $695m by floating 25 per cent of its shares on the country’s stock exchange next month.

With countries including China looking for alternatives to oil, global demand for Indonesia’s largely low-grade thermal coal, used mostly in power stations, is surging, helped by the fact that suppliers, including Australia and South Africa, can no longer meet demand.
