Australia PWCS reports Newcastle loaded 1.812Mt in the week to 30 June 2008 (94.7Mtpa pace). For the month of June Newcastle loaded 7.263Mt (thermal 5.749Mt and metallurgical 1.513Mt). Thirty eight vessels were waiting to berth.

The calculated average demurrage (JSM scale) at Newcastle in June 2008 was US$1.35/t, down from US$1.46/t in May 2008.
Gladstone loaded 4.996Mt for the month of June 2008 (60.95Mtpa pace), up 11.6% on the 4.477Mt loaded June 2007.
Xstrata has agreed to conduct an A$4M pre-feasibility study into the development of a 30Mtpa coal port at Port Alma in central Queensland. The project situated between Gladstone and Rockhampton will be able to service vessels of up to 90kt.
