Tohoku – Japan Power Plant shutdown for Maintenance

A 50-50 joint venture between Tohoku Electric Power Co and Tokyo Electric Power Co said it shut its 1,000 megawatt No.2 coal-fired generator at the Shinchi plant in northern Japan for regular maintenance.

The unit shut down on June 18, and cleaning work around a boiler is to be conducted until June 23, Soma Kyodo Power Co Ltd said on its Web site.

Soma Kyodo Power has two coal-fired generators, with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts each, at the Fukushima Prefecture-based Shinchi plant.

The No.1 unit restarted operations in mid-May after a maintenance-related shutdown.
